People often ask me if the stuff they’re putting on their face is cruelty-free, and most of the time I had to disappoint them and tell them no. This is because, most of the “big boys” and the general go-to’s like MAC, L’Oreal, Maybelline, Rimmel, MaxFactor, Chanel, Estee Lauder etc all test. And that whether it’s themselves or via 3rd parties.
There are loads of reasons why people don’t shop cruelty-free. They normally assume it’s hard to find good makeup that doesn’t harm anything or tends to think it’s going to be a lot harder to find than it actually is. Or simply because they just don’t know what to look for or how to find out!
So I decided to help make it a little easier and have put together a list with a few of my favourite brands, among others, who are all completely animal-friendly! A lot of them are also vegan certified for the hardcore among us. So you can put that shit on your face all day long, no guilt included. Most of them are readily available everywhere so it won’t be hard to get your hands on them.
I’ll be updating this regularly, so please feel free to bookmark and come back to it as many times as you like!
Anything with a ‘*’ next to it basically means they’re owned by a company who DOES test and that’s usually because they sell their products in China, where they have this bullshit rule that animal testing is compulsory to sell there. So where they may not do it in the EU where testing has been banned, they or a third party will test to get their products into China.
It’s always best to double check if you’re not sure, but it’s usually an answered question within their FAQ’s on their website’s and I’ve linked as many as I can here for you. Any brands I haven’t been able to get written confirmation of online, I’ve emailed or tweeted and await their reply.
Here’s my list of cruelty-free makeup brands!
So there you go, all the hard work has been done for you and chances are you’re using a lot of them anyway (yey!). There’s so much choice and if you’re ever in doubt go Superdrug own brand anything because there’s one everywhere. Like spiders, you’re usually within 10ft of one at all times. They’re also my go-to for your basics like deodorant, body wash, face wash etc.
So hopefully that’s helpful and I’ll keep adding to this as I come across more brands and new products.
Until next time ♡
