I was sent a new product by BzzAgent to try and review and have only just gotten around to doing it. And if you don’t know what BzzAgent is, then check them out! You basically get sent free products to try, review and keep. Yey!
I was sent the Effaclar Duo [+], and essentially it’s an anti-blemish cream, specifically formulated to target the key signs of oily, blemish-prone skin. Check, check and check again.
I’ve been putting off using it because I couldn’t find out for sure if they’re a cruelty-free brand. I reached out to them on Twitter to ask, and didn’t get a response. But hey, they can’t back to everyone. But looking into it myself I can see they’re under the umbrella brand of L’Oreal who I know DO test on animals. L’Oreal says they don’t “generally” test but will not sign a statement confirming it, so for safety’s sake, they go on the Bad Guy list. They do test for their China market, where it’s compulsory to do so in order to sell your products there (boo!)
But given that I didn’t pay for the product and they’re asking for honest feedback, I decided to do them a solid and try it out. The majority of the information on the box is all written in Russian, so I had to go to the website to get an idea of the product and what’s in it.

♡ FIRST IMPRESSIONS ♡
Moving on to trying it for myself, it’s not a heavy formula and feels almost serum like when it goes onto the skin. It’s really quickly absorbed and you don’t need to use a lot for full face coverage. I do have very oily skin myself, so I was very happy to see that the shine and oil control was immediate and it was a pretty good base for my makeup without having to use a primer. I sometimes have touch up with a translucent powder if I feel like I’m starting to look like Edward Cullen in the sunlight, but this does genuinely help keep it under control for the rest of the day and I haven’t needed to use anything in addition.
It’s also got a really pleasant smell. I can’t put my finger on it, but that’s the best way I can think of to explain. Pleasant. My skin is also SUPER sensitive and sometimes products I use can almost feel like they’re burning and my skin ends up very red and very upset, but this was pretty soothing and like rubbing water onto your face with a gel/serum consistency.
I’ve got the usual redness where most people get it.. corners of eyes, around the nose, sometimes on the chin and this promises to help even that out. I’ve been using it for around a week now and I can actually see a difference in those areas, not much, but I imagine if I keep using it it will improve it more so than it has already.
♡ FINAL THOUGHTS ♡
It’s been pretty good at keeping my oily prone skin and redness at bay and it is pretty soothing with skin as sensitive as mine. It’s good as a primer and has helped with blemish control too. Not that I get many, but when I do they came as an army and it’s a pain in the arse.
It seems to retail for anything between £8-15 depending on where you buy it from. But I also found that they also offer a full Money Back
guarantee, so if you really hate it and feel it’s done nothing for you just fill in a form, send it to them and within a week of receipt they’ll give you a full refund.
So that’s my 2 cents on this one. I do like this a lot, but wouldn’t buy this myself for principal reasons. But if they were 100% confirmed as cruelty-free, I think I would have!
