Laura Has a Blog

September should be a good one! I always feel like it’s a 2nd new year – it’s a good time for new things and new starts with the kids going back to school. The summer is “over” and people often like to seek out new things because they don’t want to go back to their usual routines. So it’s a really great time to refresh and start over if you want to!

But I’m excited for another reason – I haven’t had any time off work since March and I am absolutely dying for a break. Karne’s Dad was kind enough to send us on a “mini-moon” so we can have a holiday of sorts. We’re going to stay at this gorgeous lodge in East Sussex and we’re bringing to pooch too as it’s a pet-friendly complex. So Millie gets her first holiday and will get to see the beach for the first time. I am so excited, you had no idea!

Not only that, but it’s Karne’s birthday and he’s turning 27. He is having no trouble reminding me that my next birthday is a big one just to rub salt in the wound. Urgh, toyboys. Whoever thought they were a good idea?! I’m just kidding of course, but he’ll still get a slap if he calls me old again. I mean, I got ID’d for a frickin’ scratch card the other week. You think that would annoy me, but it actually made my day. How sad is that…

Moving swiftly on to the purpose of this post. Septembers goals! And here’s what I have on the agenda.

Enjoy My Holiday!

This is a given I know. But I have such a hard time “switching off”. The cogs in my head are always turning about something. For example, I was late to work the other day (yes that’s possible when you work from home, don’t ask) and I have literally been having dreams/nightmares about it ever since. I have this constant “DON’T BE LATE” alarm going off in my head at the moment and I’m checking the time/when I’m scheduled in every hour or so. It’s become an obsessive thing that has my anxiety on overdrive. So I want to go away and really turn it off, have fun and make some memories.

No Impulse Buys

I don’t impulse buy expensive things (apart from my car, my house and maybe my dog…). They’re usually little things here and there that are cheap and unnecessary. Ebay is the worst for that kind of thing.

We have to be very strict this month because we have birthdays and such things to pay for. But those little things all add up and a few £££’s here and there can turn into quite a lot. So I’m disciplining myself and asking “do I really need this?” before I check out. If I don’t and it can wait, and it’s not useful or enriching – then it’s not coming home with me.

Read Another Book

I’ve been dying to get my hands on the third instalment of Victoria Aveyards ‘Red Queen’ series – Kings Cage. I’ll be the first to admit that I love a good YA novel, and this one ticks all my boxes for things I love in a book. It’s been out for some time now so I’m hoping to get a 2nd hand copy from a kind stranger and have called upon the kindness of Twitter users to see if they can grant me #bookishwish, since buying this would go against my previous goal to curb my spending. Any takers?

Cut My Hair

I’ve been doing this for a couple of months now. I didn’t see the point in going to the hairdressers and paying £30+ for a trim on a blunt cut. I could just do that at home since there’s no layers or anything that would make it complicated. I’m getting my technique down and quite like it when it comes out choppy and messy. It’s been a while since I last cut it, so it’ll be nice to shed some of the ends and have a fresh trim.

Reach Out to Brands Again

I’ve really enjoyed doing the collaborations I’ve worked on with a couple of brands lately and would love to do more. I already have a couple of things in the pipeline, but paid work would be amazing because any little extra money coming into this house makes a huge difference! At least it will until Karne can go back to work. I had a pretty successful turn out when I applied before, so I’ll be making more of a conscious effort to seek out opportunities rather than waiting for them to come knocking!

Until next time ♡

I LOVE September! I definitely treat it as a 2nd new year as well!
I can’t wait until I get to the point where I’m glad to be ID’ed! 😉 It still annoys me when people ask why I’m not at school when I’m getting food shopping in the middle of the day… actually just started avoiding it now!
I’ve been cutting my own hair for the past 10 years nearly now, definitely try and get some hairdressing scissors if you can – especially the thinning ones, they’re the ones that make the cut look more professional anyway! But practice makes perfect… and it’s just hair, it’ll grow back!
Good luck with the brands as well!

Woo for September! It’s my favourite month but that’s because just like your husband, it’s my birthday to woo! I do have to agree with you about the new start too, though it always makes me miss school. I was one of those kids who got super excited about buying new stationary and actually getting to work. So happy you’re getting your “mini-moon” but yes, please relax and enjoy your time. It’s hard to say, but once you’re there, you’ll feel so much better. Can’t wait to see any pictures! I definitely think it’s okay for you to buy your book. It’s to help a goal, therefore it’s not an impulse! I’m getting my hair cut in a few weeks, and I’m slightly nervous. I’m planning on going shorter so ah!

Good luck with all your goals xxxx

Aaah I hope you have the most fabulous time away and how amazing that you can take your dog!! I always feel so guilty leaving my little pooch behind. I’m definitely in the needing a hair cut club too and am also actively not buying anything that I don’t 100% love. I’ve been really bad in the past for just buying things and never really using it so unless I’m completely obsessed with it, it’s not coming home with me! Good luck with reaching out to brands again, it’s nerve-wracking but you can do it!!

Loving your goals. 🙂 I hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday, and yep totally agree that it’s just not worth it to get a trim for £30… what happened to when it was under £10? 😭 Even with the hair massage included it’s not worth it.
