PHB Ethical Beauty Natural Black Mascara
I really like PHB’s eyeliners and lipliners, so it’s nice to get a mascara to add to my collection. When buying mascara I want volume and length and this promises to thicken, add volume and lengthen. Most products promise this and only really offer one or the other so I was little cynical about its performance. It’s also waterproof and good for sensitive eyes as everything is all natural and contains botanical oils to nourish and strengthen.
I’m happy to say that this delivered. It did everything it said and stays all day without smudging or flaking. No surprise it was listed as one of Vogues Best Kept Beauty Secrets.
Maggie Anne Strawberry and Grape Nail Varnish Remover
Next, the Maggie Anne nail polish remover. This stuff smells amazing, like a glass of summer fruits juice. There’s no horrible acetone or alcohol smell that you would normally expect. As it’s enriched with argan oil and vitamin E, it is supposed to prevent the nail bed from drying out and removes your colour gently without damage.
Zerreau Waterless Towel Off Shampoo
I use dry shampoo a lot to freshen up my hair between washes. I don’t like to wash my hair every day because it dries it out and because it helps to preserve my hair colour. So I was happy to try this out. I’ve had a “towel off” shampoo before which left my hair feeling crunchy and weird because they have a foam consistency, so I was expecting the same thing with this one.
It smells like coconut and doesn’t contain any alcohol, triclosans or parabens so it’s super gentle on the scalp and suitable for all hair types. You just section your hair into pieces and massage into the roots; this lifts any build up or grease whilst it’s wet and soapy. To remove, you just towel dry and the dirt is lifted into the solution and taken away by the towel. No crunchiness, and you then style as normal.
This would be fab for festivals, camping, sports or even when you just don’t have time for a shower.
Aqua Esse Equilibrium B12 Infused Pure Alkaline Natural Spring Water
I didn’t read much about this before I tried it, so I was actually expecting a fruit flavour and was a bit taken aback when it tasted just like fresh mineral water. This stuff is designed to keep you hydrated and provide essential B12 vitamins that a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle sometimes fails to provide.
There’s no sugar, no added flavours and the colour comes from the B12 crystals infusing into the alkaline water, naturally turning the water pink, which I think is pretty cool! You can get a “try me” pack (2 bottles) from their website for £3.90.
Amie New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish
I love Amie skincare. I use their matte finish moisturiser every day, which I think I got in a previous TVK beauty box. Their range is all cruelty-free, vegan, PH balanced, free from parabens and mineral oils, and free from nasties such as petrochemicals and plastic micro-beads. Bleugh!
It contains natural rice granules and bamboo stem that work deep down into pores to lift away dirt, oil and impurities. Mango and orange blossom extracts help to tone and refresh oily skin, and the cocoa seed butter and mango seed butter nourishes, softens and conditions the skin. So you’re left with gorgeous baby soft skin, boosted circulation and a radiant glow.
I have very sensitive combination skin and I’ve tried so many different products but nothing works for me like this does. And it doesn’t cost the Earth! Yey.
Vita Coco Coconut Oil
I haven’t got around to trying this yet, but you can’t ignore the increasing popularity of coconut oil and all of the different uses you can get out of this all-purpose miracle.
It’s 100% raw, organic, cold pressed and free from harmful chemicals. It can be used for cooking, baking, as a cleanser, a moisturiser, lip balm, on your hair, on your nails and for medicinal use, as it helps with inflammation, is a fat burner, as a sleep aid and even for sick pets! Make your own lip scrub with coconut oil and sugar, the possibilities are endless.
This stuff is available everywhere (Tesco, ASDA, Boots, Budgens, Amazon, Sainsbury’s etc) so get your hands on some and start experimenting.
20p from every TVK Beauty Box is donated to the Dr Harwen Trust, which is the UK’s leading non-animal research charity. They fund and promote the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of animals in biomedical research. They’re funded solely by donations and provide grants for over 170 research projects in areas of medical research. Check them out at www.drhadwenttrust.org or on twitter @DrHawentTrust.
