A popular culture that is beginning to creep into the mainstream recently is Witchcraft/Wicca. Some who have been practicing the craft for a long time may find this irritating or offensive, others are happy that their passion is trickling into peoples lives and welcome newcomers. Either way, it seems to be making waves for several reasons and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Firstly, I do not claim to be a witch, by any stretch. I didn’t think I practiced Magick, I don’t have a book of shadows or an altar, I don’t have a specific path of deity that I worship. However, when I read any book on the topic, they all suggest that the fact I’m being pulled towards the subject means I’m having some form of awakening. That I’m remembering what I am and have started on a path and that some things I do are all forms of Magick in their own right. For example Tarot and angel cards, burning incense, crystals, throwing salt, knocking on wood. It’s all Magick.

Since this is something that seems to intrigue many, myself included, I thought I’d share some of the books I have read that I’ve found the most insightful and educational on the topic. Books that may be useful to someone draw to the enigma that is Wicca, or who are already “awake” but need some help in practicing their craft. Many of these have some historical education as well as informative and practical lessons. They’re great tools to have if you’re getting started, and even just interesting to those who want to know more about it!

Witch: Unleashed. Untamed. Unapologetic
by Lisa Lister

Witch: Unleashed. Untamed. Unapologetic by Lisa ListerIf you’re reading this, if you picked up this book, then it’s your time too. It’s time to wake the witches.
You are a woman rooting. A woman remembering. A witch waking.”

Blurb:

A WITCH IS A WOMAN IN HER POWER.

She’s wise, a healer, someone who is aligned with the cycles of Mother Nature and the phases of the Moon. Yet for so long, the word ‘witch’ has had negative connotations – being used as an insult, a slur and to perpetuate fear. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why in past centuries the word ‘witch’ has led women to be tortured, drowned and burned at the stake, and why the witch is now waking once again in women across the world today.

This book will help women to remember, reconnect and reclaim the word ‘witch’ and its power. It explores the many different versions of witchcraft and their core principles and practices, and shares ancient wisdom made relevant for waking witches, including how to:

– Align your energy with the wheel of the year, the sabbats and the cycles of the Moon
– Connect with and trust your intuition
– Use divination tools such as Oracle cards, scrying and rune reading
– Cast circles, create altars and set sacred space
– Work with the elements of nature and use herbs and crystals
– Discover and work with five different aspects of the witch: the Force of Nature, the Creatrix, the Healer, the Oracle and the Sorceress
– Rediscover your powers and manifest your reality with spellcasting

Lisa also shares her own journey to reclaiming the word ‘witch’, along with personal, hands-on rituals and spells from her family lineage of gypsy witch magic.

These are very interesting! In my 20’s I studied Wicca and learned so much. I still have some of those old books I read sitting on my bookshelf. My mom converted to Wicca from the Catholic faith and she loves it. I am definitely going to have to look into these books for my mom. And update my knowledge as well.
